Melanie Campbell, DVM

Dr. Campbell earned her DVM degree from the University of California at Davis in 2001. After completing a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA Emergency Animal Hospital and Referral Center in San Diego in 2002, she returned to UC Davis as a postgraduate researcher in the Comparative Cancer Research Laboratory, investigating canine brain tumors. Dr. Campbell completed her residency in neurology and neurosurgery at UC Davis in 2006. Her interests include neurosurgery, cancer of the nervous system, and inflammatory neurologic diseases.

James Lavely, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM, Neurology
James Lavely, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM, Neurology Dr. Lavely received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. He then completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, MA. After which, Dr. Lavely completed his residency in neurology/neurosurgery at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in July 2003 and became board certified in veterinary neurology in July 2004. Dr. Lavely has presented research in spinal epidural empyema (abscess) and the use of single fiber electromyography for the detection of myasthenia gravis at the American College of Veterinary Medicine national forums in 2002 and 2003. Dr. Lavely has authored several publications including invited reviews on fungal infections of the nervous system and pediatric neurology. Dr. Lavely joined ACC in 2003 and enjoys working with a motivated team, dedicated to providing high quality specialty care. Amongst many aspects of neurology,Dr. Lavely is particularly interested in inflammatory and infectious diseases of the nervous system, myasthenia gravis, MR imaging and neurosurgery.

Vince Pedroia, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM, Neurology
After a long and valiant fight with cancer, Vince Pedroia passed away on May 29, 2007. He was was a wonderful man, a superb neurologist and neurosurgeon, a devoted family man and a good friend to those fortunate enough to know him. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and peers.

Vince graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1971 and then went into general small animal practice in Sonoma County until returning UC Davis in 1980 to complete his residency in neurology. While attending UC Davis he was an adjunct instructor in anatomy until 1984. Vince had a neurology referral practice in Sacramento and Berkeley prior to joining the Animal Care Center in 1988. His practice was limited to medical and surgical neurology. He received his certification in neurology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1995. During Vince's time with Animal Care Center, he founded and expanded the ACC neurology team and it's offerings. He also served as the hospital's Medical Director and was a valued member of the ACC Board of Directors for many years.

Diccon Westworth, BVSc (Hons),
Diplomate ACVIM, Neurology

Dr. Westworth received a BVSc with Honors (equivalent to the U.S. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) in 1995 from the University of Melbourne in Australia. He then spent two years in small animal private practice, and pursued an special interest in primate medicine and conservation in Uganda and at the Californian Regional Primate Research Center. After completion of a surgical internship in Sydney, Australia, he was accepted into Neurology/Neurosurgery residency at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at University of California/Davis in August 2003. He qualified with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2006. Dr. Westworth’s research interests include advanced imaging techniques, brain tumors, and neurosurgery.

Dr Lisa Tieber, DVM,
Diplomate ACVIM, Neurology

Dr. Tieber obtained a bachelors and masters degree in psychology early in her academic career. As a part of this training she spent several years working with adults and children with brain injuries and developmental disabilities. Her desire to work with and help both animals and people led her to Iowa State University where she received her veterinary medical degree in 2001. The following year she did a small animal medicine and surgery internship in New York City at the Animal Medical Center. She spent an additional year at Michigan Veterinary Specialists as the internship coordinator and emergency clinician. Her fascination with neurology made specializing in neurology and neurosurgery the obvious next step and she completed a neurology/neurosurgery residency at Auburn University in 2006. She became board certified in veterinary neurology from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine the same year. She worked in Los Angeles at City of Angels Veterinary Specialty Center prior to coming to Animal Care Center of Sonoma. She loves everything about the field of neurology, but especially enjoys neurosurgery, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, infectious diseases, and diseases of the peripheral nervous system. She has been published in several veterinary journals and the Clinical Veterinary Advisor.

Her family consists of a wonderful husband, son, several cats, and a dog. She loves to travel and spend time outdoors.
