Autumn Davidson, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM
From 1998 to 2003, just prior to joining ACC, Autumn served as the Director of the San Rafael veterinary clinic at Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., overseeing the health care of 1,000 puppies whelped annually, a breeding colony of 350 and approximately 400 dogs in training. In addition to practicing internal medicine at ACC she is a clinical professor at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, in the department of medicine and epidemiology. She specializes in small animal reproduction and infectious disease. Autumn also consults with the Smithsonian Institution National Zoological Park in Washington D. C. concerning theriogenology and internal medicine. She previously served on the board of directors for the Society for Theriogenology and the Institute for Genetic Disease Control. In 2003, she was honored with the Hills Animal Welfare and Humane Ethics Award, which recognizes an individual who has advanced animal welfare through extraordinary service or by furthering humane principles, education and understanding.
Nancy Kay, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM
Nancy's veterinary degree is from Cornell University Veterinary College and she completed residency training in Small Animal Medicine at the University of California, Davis Veterinary School. She is a board certified specialist in the College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and is published in several veterinary journals as well as Manual of Small Animal Practice and Handbook of Small Animal Practice. Nancy is a long time member of the Animal Care Center staff (well over a decade!), and she enjoys all aspects of small animal internal medicine. Nancy founded and now facilitates the Animal Care Center Pet Support Group for folks with sick four legged family members. She has a special interest in the topic of communication between veterinarians and their clients. Her book, Speaking for Spot: An Insider's Guide to Getting the Best Medical Care for Your Dog will be out in the fall of 2008. Her personal life revolves around her husband (also a veterinarian), her three children, (none of whom aspire to be veterinarians), and their family menagerie of dogs, cats, birds, horses, and goats.
Mike Magne, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM
Michael received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1981 from the University of Illinois where he also fulfilled his internship. In 1985 he completed a residency and master's degree in clinical veterinary medicine at Colorado State University. He worked briefly at the Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital before helping to found Animal Care Center. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1985 and is extensively published in veterinary and medical literature including the Veterinary Therapy Textbook of Internal Medicine. His special areas of interest include gastroenterology and oncology.
Sara Schachter, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM
Dr. Schachter received her DVM from the University of California-Davis in 1997 and completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in New York City in 1998. She moved back to the Bay Area and completed a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of California-Davis. She continued at UCD as a clinical fellow, while completing her certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Pursuing her interest in diabetes, Dr. Schachter completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the world-renowned Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard University in 2002. That same year, she worked as a consultant for Cardiopet, assisting veterinarians throughout North America with cardiac and internal medicine cases. At the end of 2002, she started the Internal Medicine Department at Special Veterinary Services in Berkeley, where she practiced for 3 years. In 2005 she started Veterinary Internal Medicine Associates in Fairfield, California, where she worked until joining the Animal Care Center. Dr. Schachter has special interests in endocrine disorders and oncology.
Dr. Schachter currently resides in the rural outskirts of Santa Rosa area with her husband, her 2 sons, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 llamas, 3 goats, 2 horses, and a flock of chickens. In her spare time she enjoys running, swimming, bicycling, traveling, dressage, and 3-day eventing.
Benita von Dehn, DVM,Diplomate ACVIM
We are pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Benita von Dehn, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM, to the Internal Medicine team at Animal Care Center.
Dr. von Dehn received her veterinary degree from Colorado State University. She completed her internship training at the Animal Medical Center in New York City and residency training at the University of California, Davis. Dr. von Dehn became board certified in 1996 and has worked as a small animal internist in the San Francisco Bay area as well as providing internal medicine consultation for veterinarians, for one of the largest nationwide veterinary laboratories, Idexx Laboratories.
